BF3 Beta starts September 29th (27th for the lucky few!)

The game mode will be rush - so like battlefield just without (most of) the vehicles, if you dont like using beta software you may find BC2 gives a similar experiance.


It does seem somewhat puzzling not to test conquest which would surely stress the game more completely but then Im not entirely familiar with how you test these modern console games.

I'm going to cry if I end up having to run on lowest settings just to get a desired 60fps out of my 8800GT.

Also it would ruin any chance of using fraps... need a frame renderer

If you order off EA I guess so - but then you will be paying an extra £10 for 48 hours testing.
Better than that, you'll be paying £10 to test the software, when testing is part of the software development process - so your effectivly paying extra to make something inspite of having paid someone else to make it for you- brilliant!

Not got it but have been reading the hole that is the EA forums.

Whilst hardly news, its clearly not a PC game - just BC2.

Silly things like people having trouble binding keys, settings only changable in game, soldier name tied to Origin name, larger resolutions look wrong, launch from a browser.......

Anyway, not all bad, ARMA3 should be out sometime next year.

Update: It's very laggy, almost unplayable. Operation Metro's the only map online, but there are some EA test servers running caspian border, with passwords on them. The main menu of the game is browser based, including the server browser and whatnot. Every time you change servers the whole program closes and reopens. I despise the browser based stuff.

Also, you can't open the ingame menu unless you're alive. So, it took me a good half hour to change my display settings, because I kept getting killed and had the menu close on me before I could apply the settings.

Basically, once they sort out the lag problems, it might be okay. But it definitely doesn't feel like BF3 to me. Feels like BFBC3.

Oh, and my rig can't run it on ultra, which annoys me. Phenom II X4 965 BE at 3.7Ghz + Radeon HD5870 should at least be able to pull 30 fps on ultra, but it doesn't, so I have to play on high instead. This makes me sadface.

There is a rumour that Caspian will be added tomorrow and the password to the servers is floating around and people are playing on them (apparently).

Caspian is generally said to be better. It does seem a lot like they chose the wrong map for the early demo (lets be honest, the only testing here is server side, client wise its a rough mp demo).

Graphics wise, it would seem likely that not every setting will actually change anything, but thats no biggy.
I am getting the impression that lower graphic settings may make certain objects invisible as there are a few complaints on the EA forums that people have been shot when they shouldnt have been visible to the enemy. I remeber there being something like that with the grass in BF2.
